Immunization in Vermont
5/16/12 -- The Immunization Law has changed with the passing of Senate Bill S. 199. We will be updating soon with details of the changes.
Vaccines are one of our nation's
most successful and cost-effective public health
tools, preventing serious disease in the children and adults who receive immunizations. Vaccinations help protect against
risk of disease, whether from contact with individuals who choose to not be vaccinated, or
when tra
veling to places that have diseases not common in Vermont.
Increasing immunization coverage will protect the health of all Vermonters by reducing, and eventually eliminating, vaccine-preventable diseases.
The Department of Health Immunization Program reaches out statewide to make sure children and adults receive the immunizations they need:
- Providing up-to-date vaccine, materials, training, and support to public and private vaccine providers.
- Working in partnership with immunization providers, and local and statewide professional organizations.
- Raising public awareness about immunizations and vaccines.
Please look through this web site to learn more about our immunization programs, and what the Department of Health has to offer.
Vermont's immunization law states that parents are required to fully vaccinate children prior to school or child care entry. Immunizations help to protect the wellbeing of the individual child, his/her classmates and the community.
The Health Department has created a fact sheet to answer many of the commonly asked questions about a proposed change to Vermont's vaccine philosophical exemption.
